Blue-eyes-and-black-people-genetic-mutation

Introduction:

Tats true, even dark-skinned people can have blue eyes! Though black people with blue eyes are very uncommon, and especially those without Caucasian ancestry. It was found that ancestral genetic mutation is linked with blue eyes. Research proves that few black people with blue eyes are a result of ocular albinism, which is a health condition.

Studies about the origin of Black People With Blue Eyes

Briefly, the origin of black people with blue eyes is the same as the birth of any human’s eye color. There is an argument that at one point every human being had brown, like eye color. Professor Hans Eiberg from the University of Copenhagen says that the first light-eyed human arouse about 10 thousand years ago. Eidenberg and his team included 8 hundred blue-eyed women and men across various countries in their study. They concentrated on genes that coded for blue eyes in these individuals.

The study gave a conclusion that all black people with blue eyes have the same sequence of DNA. This DNA sequence consists of a genetic mutation that occurred 10 thousand years ago in South-Eastern Europe. Hence, every blue-eyed person is distantly related. Since the mutation originated in Europe, it’s not so common to see black people with blue eyes. However, this genetic mutation affects blacks the same way it does to any other human.

Reason for Most Blue-Eyed People in Europe

Nearly all of them in Asia and Africa have brown eyes, and it’s the most common eye color across the world. Europe has a vast variety of eye colors with the highest proportion of blue-eyed people in contrast. Factually, 80% of inhabitants have blue eyes in Finland and Estonia. The first reason for most blue-eyed people in Europe is that it was the epicenter of gene mutation. Another significant reason is partner selection. According to studies, European guys were more attracted to women with blue eyes. This type of selection may be the cause for the highest population with blue eyes. Both the above hypotheses also prove the reason for the lowest proportion of black people with blue eyes.

Cause for black people with blue eye

To comprehend the cause there is a relationship between melanin pigment and eye color. Melanin a pigment gives color to the eyes and hair of every human. Darker skin has more melanin than light skin. This pigment also determines eye color. Individuals with less melanin have a lighter eye color than someone with more melanin pigment. Heterochromia varies the amount of melanin present. This variation leads to different colors in different parts of the eye.

Central heterochromia may appear in anyone without a history of heterochromia. It often occurs infrequently at birth. Mostly, it doesn’t cause any severe condition or visual impairment. So it doesn’t require any treatment or diagnosis. Heterochromia develops in the later life of some people. It may be as a result of prior conditions like:

Heterochromia and types

Heterochromia is a condition that results in different eye colors. The types of heterochromia are central heterochromia, segmental and complete.

1. Central heterochromia

Central heterochromia gives different colors near the pupil’s border despite one definite eye color. People with this condition have gold shade all around the pupil’s border and in the center of the iris. The remaining iris is in a different color, and it’s the true eye color of the person.

2. Segmental heterochromia

It’s quite similar to central heterochromia. Segmental heterochromia affects a larger part of the iris, unlike central heterochromia that affects around the iris. It may occur in one or both eyes.

3. Complete heterochromia

People with this type of condition have entirely different colored eyes. That’s when one eye has blue the other has green, brown, orange, or another color.

Infant heterochromia:

Talk to the pediatrician if you have a baby with different-colored eyes. It’s also necessary to take the infant to an ophthalmologist as the baby is likely to be developing.  Their eye color may change naturally.

 Diagnosis of heterochromia:

Get checked if you notice any change in eye color of either one or both. Talk to your doctor if you notice a change in the color of one or both eyes. The doctor will conduct a full eye exam and look closely into your eyes. They will inquire if you have any other symptoms or had heterochromia earlier. Genetic or blood tests will be recommended.

Treatment of heterochromia:

You will be treated if you have heterochromia because of underlying conditions. Or else, you don’t need treatment. If any change of eye color is noticed in later life, get immediately examined by an ophthalmologist or eye specialist. The doctor will complete a detailed eye examination to check for abnormalities. The examination includes an examination of peripheral vision, optic nerve, eye pressure, pupils, and visual test. You may also get suggested to undergo a non-invasive imaging test that gives cross-sectional images of the retina. Treatment isn’t required if there is no abnormality.

Conclusion:

All eye colors are beautiful but you are rare if you have dark skin with blue eyes. In other words, you are genetically related to celebrities like Michael Ealy and Nicole Murphy. So, take care of your eyes as they are significant, magical, and wonderfully designed by the divine.
